As with Magic Claw, you can hold SP from Thunderbolt once it reaches level 15. Max it once you have saved enough points.

Thunderbolt and Cold Beam can be switched depending on where you prefer training early on.
You can skip Cold Beam altogether if you like and bump everything else up. Spend the extra points on anything you like.

Is this because cold beam is useless in 3rd job?  If you're a high level (like 100) ice mage, you never use cold beam? Just curious

Cold beam is still useful on a single target in the higher levels due to saving mp and you are likely to kill mobs with it. I also recommend maxing seal over partial resistance since partial resistance is only useful for bossing and I/L rarely fight mobs of ice/lightning element. 1 seal before maxing amplification will help you save money and pots. Booster past level 11 is for convenience so I recommend maxing composition before maxing it if you prefer.

yo, here's an alternative: i'd just go 94th at lv 25ish mage and spam claw till lightning becomes viable and camp there till lvl 50+, alternating between lpq and 94th

I recommended going to Leafre and training on these mobs at these levels:

  • Levels 77-81
  • Levels 81-87
  • Levels 87 - 105
    • Red Wyverns (Red Wyvern's Nest)
      • Some of the platforms allow Ice Strike to hit wyverns below you, however require their wing flap to be above their head. I recommend watching a Youtube video on how folks train there.
        • Entering Cash Shop or changing channels spawns you up top and allow you to utilize this.

The best exp from 105+ would be to party at Jr Newties and then 108+ at Skelegons.

This hidden-street guide for i/l mages is also really good!
